Fortis was approached to develop a unique underground lift for a client who needed a solution to hoist a gearbox weighing approximately 120,000 lbs from an underground borer in order to change the track frame.
Fortis managed the project, engineered the development of the lift plan, and designed, fabricated, and tested custom lifting brackets. Using the Northern Strands Group of Companies resources, Fortis supplied all required equipment and rigging supplies necessary for the lift through Northern Strands and Certified Sales and Rentals. Some of the equipment included four 20 Tonne chain hoists, four 20 Tonne D-Plate with 1 3/4″ shackles and four load cells for load monitoring and equalization during the critical lift.
Fortis tailored the lift plan specifically for the client’s boring machine and sold the rigging equipment to the client for future use in subsequent borer overhauls.
